Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp- Fort Collins, CO

Sky Ranch is a summer camp and fall retreat facility located in Poudre Canyon about an hour and a half outside of Fort Collins, CO. It just celebrated its fifty year anniversary of being open! I have spent the summer working as the weekend coordinator. I work with various churches and groups that visit our facility on weekends to make sure their activities and meals go smoothly and that they feel wholly welcomed at camp.

Camp sits at 9,200 ft elevation and has multiple meeting spaces, lodging areas and gorgeous hikes within walking distance of our grounds. We also have a great high ropes course. Running the ropes course is my favorite part of working weekends! 

Weekend Coordinator Responsibilities

The Weekend Coordinator is responsible for ensuring weekend guests have a great time at camp. I oversee three to five counselors each weekend. Some groups want my counselors and I to run lots of activities for them while others want to do their own thing the whole time, so every weekend is very different. I am responsible for helping guests get to their lodging, set up/take down for meals, and other various tasks to make sure the weekend runs smoothly. I am the highest ranking person at camp on weekends, so I am generally responsible for the overall well-being of camp Friday afternoons to Sunday mornings. The Weekend Coordinator also helps the camp nurse check kids in to camp on Sundays when they arrive.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • ​Be at least one year out of high school
  • Be available for work starting in late May through mid August
  • Be a caring and compassionate leader who loves working with children and youth
  • Be flexible and open-minded! Not all of the staff are Lutheran, but programs do come from a Lutheran perspective
Benefits and Opportunities: 
    Sky Ranch houses and feeds staff for the entire summer. Most staff gets weekends off and is welcome at camp during off times. There are also many beautiful hikes nearby that staff like to go on on weekends. The Lutheran community is very connected, so many staffers end up making good connections through their work with camp and the alumni network. For my position specifically, I have the opportunity to continue working into the fall by becoming a Fall Host and working with similar retreat groups at camp through December.

  • Increased practice with coordinating the needs of multiple groups at once 
  • Increased desire to continue working in the event field!
